Shaggy’s “Boombastic” Is Now Certified Double Platinum in New Zealand

Jamaican icon Shaggy continues to strengthen the global legacy of his timeless hit “Boombastic,” which has officially been certified 2x Platinum in New Zealand.

According to Recorded Music NZ, the classic crossover anthem has now surpassed 60,000 units in combined sales and streaming equivalents as of June 11, adding another international milestone to one of Shaggy’s most successful records.

The song, released in May 1995 through Virgin Records as the second single from his third studio album Boombastic, became one of Shaggy’s earliest global breakout hits.

It marks Shaggy’s second consecutive week earning a Platinum certification in New Zealand, following “Hey Sexy Lady,” which recently achieved Platinum status in the country after surpassing 30,000 units sold and streaming equivalents.

“Boombastic” was previously certified Platinum by the RIAA in the United States for over 1 million units sold, while also earning Platinum certification in the United Kingdom for surpassing 600,000 units. The single has also achieved Platinum status in Australia and Norway, while earning Gold certifications in Germany, Austria and France.

With more than 485 million Spotify streams and over 300 million YouTube views across its official audio and music video, “Boombastic” remains one of the signature records in the catalog of the diamond-selling artiste.
