St Catherine rape accused gets $800,000 bail in Parish Court

Bail set at $800,000 has been offered to a man before the St Catherine Parish Court after he was charged in connection with the alleged rape of a 17-year-old girl.

The bail request was made by attorney Davion Vassell for the accused and was approved on Friday by Acting Parish Court Judge Janelle Nelson-Gayle. As part of the conditions, the man was placed under a fingerprint order and directed to hand over his travel documents.

The case is scheduled to come back before the court on September 8 for another mention.

According to the allegations, the accused hired the complainant for work in early May. It is further alleged that he later took her to his home and went to sleep.

He subsequently found that $400,000 was gone from the house and could not reach the complainant. He reportedly placed her photograph on social media and later made a report about the alleged theft.

The complainant later alleged that he had raped her, after which he was arrested and charged.
