St Mary Hit-and-Run Crash Leaves Pedestrian Dead

Police in St Mary are searching for the driver involved in a fatal crash that claimed the life of a man along the Heywood Hall main road on Tuesday night.

The incident occurred about 9:30 p.m. near the Hampstead entrance in the parish.

According to investigators, preliminary reports suggest the man, who was believed to be mentally ill, was walking along the roadway when he was struck by a motor vehicle. The driver reportedly failed to stop after the collision and left the injured man on the road.

The deceased was reportedly dressed in a light blue T-shirt and dark-coloured shorts at the time of the incident.

Commanding officer for the St Mary Police Division, Anthony Wallace, said the injured man was later transported to Port Maria Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police are continuing investigations into the crash and are appealing to anyone with information that could help identify the vehicle or driver involved to contact the Port Maria police.

Meanwhile, law enforcement officials are urging both motorists and pedestrians to exercise caution while using the nation’s roadways.

Police reminded drivers to obey speed limits and stop to render assistance following collisions, while pedestrians are being encouraged to remain alert and use designated walkways whenever possible.
