The JCC Awards 2026 in Retrospect
The 41st Jamaica Chamber of Commerce Annual Awards Banquet, held under the theme Building Forward, saw Emil Liber, during his first awards ceremony as JCC President, recognising the excellence of his chambers peers in promoting Jamaica's recovery, resilience, and growth.
Speaking at the event, Liber said, “At the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce, we believe that
building forward requires more than celebrating success. It requires creating the conditions in which businesses and communities can thrive. Melissa was a tragedy, but in responding to that tragedy, we witnessed something inspiring. We witnessed collaboration over competition, service over self-interest, action over rhetoric. The hurricane reminded us that
resilience is not measured by what we possess. When times are easy, it is measured by how we respond when circumstances become difficult. When the plans you carefully put in place no longer work.”
Prime Minister Andrew Holness urged the nation's business leaders not to simply seek restoration of what was lost in the storm, but instead to build for resurgence.
“There may be, in this room, companies that have projects that they want to have executed.
NaRRA is that platform. We have stated that if you have a project 15 million US or above and it fits within the reconstruction and resilience, it is in alignment with any of the other projects that the government is doing – come to us. The reconstruction spending that will come in n it won't be just any ordinary capital expenditure. It will be the single largest economic intervention that will be made in a generation possibly in the 200 and odd years of the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce. It will be the largest intervention. The possibility is that we could increase our GDP by more than 20%.”
