Third World Set for To Mom With Love Concert in Kingston

Reggae had one of its defining years in 1976, when major albums arrived from Bob Marley and The Wailers with Rastaman Vibration, Bunny Wailer with Blackheart Man, and Peter Tosh with Legalize It.
That same year also brought Third World’s first album, issued three years after the group was established in Kingston. Among the four celebrated reggae releases from that period, Third World’s self-titled project stood out for its wide-ranging musical approach.
The band is booked for To Mom With Love on May 10 at the AC Hotel in Kingston. The line-up also features Marcia Griffiths, American rhythm and blues artiste Glenn Jones, Robert Minott and Nesta.
Minott, who has followed Third World’s music for many years, called the band a “special group” with cross-generational reach.
“They’re a great band, I’ve been listening to Third World for years. I even did a song with Bunny Rugs,” he told Observer Online.
Bunny Rugs was Third World’s frontman from 1977 until his death in 2014. His voice was heard on several of the band’s best-known songs, including Now That We Found Love, Try Jah Love and Committed.
The group has also recently lost two founding members. Guitarist Stephen “Cat” Coore died in January at 69, while keyboardist Ibo Cooper died in 2023.
To Mom With Love will be staged twice, with one show beginning at 1 pm and the other set for 7 pm.
