West Indies will begin a six-match white-ball series against Sri Lanka at Sabina Park on June 3 with a clear emphasis on winning at home and building towards qualification for the 2027 50-over World Cup.

The regional side has already booked its place at the 2028 ICC T20 World Cup in Australia, so head coach Daren Sammy said the immediate priority is the one-day programme. The Jamaica leg will feature three T20 Internationals and three One-Day Internationals at Sabina Park.

Sammy said Sri Lanka will require a complete performance from the West Indies, describing the visitors as a highly ranked ODI opponent. He said the team’s planning is centred on defending home conditions and making the most of its fixtures in the Caribbean.

According to Sammy, West Indies have eight home ODIs this year, and the squad intends to treat each one as important. He said Sri Lanka may find Caribbean conditions familiar, but West Indies will be looking to turn Sabina Park and crowd support in Jamaica into an advantage.

The final squads have not yet been named. Sammy said several players remain involved in the Indian Premier League, but selectors have already met and the white-ball squads are expected to be announced soon.

Anthony Davis, chairman of the International Tour Committee of the Jamaica Cricket Association, said planning for the Sabina Park matches is on schedule with about two weeks to go. He said some arrangements can only be completed closer to match time, but there is no concern that key items will be unfinished by the time Sri Lanka arrive.

Davis also said work was being done on the Sabina Park light towers after issues arose during West Indies’ day-night Test against Australia at the venue in 2025. He said a team was carrying out the necessary adjustments and that Cricket West Indies would be sent a diagram to confirm specifications across the ground. At minimum, he said, the lights would meet the required standard.

Sri Lanka’s tour of the Caribbean is scheduled to run from June 3 to July 7 and will include three T20 Internationals, three ODIs and two Test matches.
