HMH Farms Pours Millions Into Local Agriculture to Cut Jamaica's Import Reliance

H'jort Henry, who leads HMH Farms, has confirmed that the company is channelling millions of dollars into farm infrastructure as part of a wider push to shore up Jamaica's food security and ease reliance on overseas groceries.

Henry said the spending plan has unfolded in stages over recent years. The work is geared toward raising domestic egg output, tightening day-to-day operations, and creating a sturdier local food network.

He drew attention to the scale of Jamaica's trade gap in food and consumer goods. Imports reached US$2.1 billion in the past year, he noted, while food exports brought in only US$63 million.

Henry stressed that farming still underpins both national stability and household nourishment. The sector, he said, provides jobs for roughly 250,000 Jamaicans and adds about eight per cent directly to gross domestic product.
