Holness defends economic test for Spring Village bridge spending

1 min readSt. Catherine

Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness says the Government’s capital spending decisions are guided by projects expected to bring economic value, not street pressure or party loyalty.

Holness made the point today while speaking at the opening of the Spring Village bridge in Old Harbour, St. Catherine. He said the administration has to apply an objective standard when deciding which works to undertake.

The Prime Minister said funding should not be influenced by people mounting heated demonstrations, closing off roads, or having personal links to ministers. He said the priority is to choose investments that offer the strongest economic gains for Jamaica and its citizens. Holness pointed to the Spring Village bridge as vital infrastructure serving a wide public need.
