Holness Targets Lower Electricity Bills as Jamaica Reviews 2027 Energy Licence

1 min read

Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness says Jamaica’s electricity and wider energy prices are too high, describing the matter as a major national problem that has to be addressed.

With the Government renegotiating the all-island energy licence scheduled to begin in July 2027, Holness said the administration wants measurable relief in power and energy bills for both homes and businesses.

He said the Government intends to reshape the sector, with greater focus on renewable options and nuclear technology. Holness was speaking last evening at the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce’s 41st annual awards banquet at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel.
