1 min readPortland

Jamaica registered a 3.4-magnitude tremor at 6:20 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8, the University of the West Indies Earthquake Unit confirmed.

The unit placed the epicentre about 11 kilometres south of Hope Bay in Portland. Residents in Kingston and St Andrew also reported feeling the shake.

The Office of the Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management, ODPM, said it has had no accounts of damage. Officials continue to stress that the public should stay ready, noting that quakes can strike without notice.

Anyone who felt the tremor is asked to send observations to the Earthquake Unit so the agency can strengthen its seismic monitoring and analysis.
