Papa San blesses DJ Mac’s WYFL rhythm

Gospel deejay and minister Papa San, a former secular recording artiste, has taken the word of the Lord to DJ Mac’s popular WYFL rhythm.
The song, Real Talk, has received positive feedback from fans after a video of Papa San performing the song went viral on social media platform TikTok.
“The song has 36 verses. It has different topics addressed to point people to Christ,” Papa San told the Jamaica Observer on Thursday.
He shared that his son BEAM, a platinum-selling rapper/singer/songwriter, who has collaborated with the likes of Beyonce and Justin Bieber among others, was who suggested that he contribute to the popular WYFL beat.
“Basically, my son BEAM said that he had been getting texts from different people asking why I wasn’t on the rhythm or that I should be on the rhythm. So I told him that I don’t really run in pon rhythm weh everybody deh pon, because that was never my usual thing from day one. I prayed about it and I felt at ease and asked God to prepare the message. The intention was to send a message and hoping that the people will receive the message and take heed,” Papa San explained.
The gospel artiste said he took his cues for Real Talk from God.
“There’s nothing that I can do without Him. He put all the lines together and I thank Him for allowing me and to use me in this way to bring the message to nations that can edify people. He pushed me to deliver His messages to His people,” Papa San disclosed.
He added: “People have been embracing the song all over, so we definitely have to put it out. People been reaching out from all over, because the message is the key.”
Real Talk, according to Papa San, could be included on a forthcoming worship project that he is working on.
“Definitely, it should be a part of my worship project that’s coming up. It wasn’t something that was planned. This is something that God has led us to, and I’m very happy,” he said.
The WYFL rhythm is the first secular dancehall beat featuring multiple artistes that Papa San has recorded on since the popular Duck rhythm in the late 1980s. The Duck rhythm spawned several popular hits with Bounce by Flourgon, Duck by Red Dragon, More Reality by Ninja Man, Style and Fashion and I Will Survive both #1 hits by Papa San.
The veteran artiste’s most recent body of work, a six-song EP titled My Worship, was released by Beloved Records in January.
