Supreme Court dismisses Pivott's application for injunction against PFJL

A Supreme Court judge has dismissed an application by Pivott LLC seeking an injunction against Professional Football Jamaica Limited (PFJL), clearing the way for the Wray and Nephew Jamaica Premier League (JPL) playoffs to proceed while the legal dispute continues.
The Supreme Court also ordered Pivott to pay PFJL's legal costs. However, those costs will not be recoverable until the matter is fully determined. The court further rejected an oral application by Pivott's attorneys for leave to appeal the decision.
In a statement on Thursday, PFJL welcomed the ruling, saying the decision means the organization is free to continue producing and broadcasting the JPL.
PFJL said its legal team, led by Attorney-at-Law Emile Leiba, successfully defended the injunction proceedings during hearings that stretched from Wednesday into Thursday.
The organization says the matter will now proceed through the normal legal process, with its attorneys preparing a defence to the substantive claim and seeking to have the claim struck out entirely.
