Hurricane Melissa donations to replenish JDF and ODPEM emergency supplies

Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness says a portion of the $1.4 billion donated for hurricane recovery will be directed to replacing emergency construction material used by the JDF and ODPEM after Hurricane Melissa.

During a Labour Day stop in St Elizabeth, Holness said the money would also assist roof repair work, modular housing and the creation of a Westmoreland community for residents forced from their homes. He said the Government’s handling of the donations was under close review, with systems for openness, responsibility and material records. Holness rejected allegations that relief items were stolen, saying the auditor general’s concerns related to administrative and delivery difficulties during late-night operations.
