Swimmer Kaheem Loza has been named one of eight Olympic Solidarity scholarship recipients, and his parents have commended the Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA) for helping to make the financial arrangement possible.

Kemahi Loza and Andrea Scarlett Loza were present at the presentation ceremony where their son was formally recognised. The family said the award reflects sustained effort from Kaheem, who they described as having worked hard toward selection.

Speaking after the event, the parents said they were encouraged by the quality of the athletes honoured alongside their son. They noted that earning the scholarship was something Kaheem genuinely wanted and that he was excited to be counted among the candidates.

The couple also reflected on remarks from the president of the JOA during the ceremony. They said they were moved by the description of Olympism as something akin to a cultural currency — a view that placed sport within a wider framework of human development.

The Lozas observed that when children excel, attention often falls on academic achievement and conventional professional paths. They welcomed the recognition that a sporting movement can fulfil meaningful developmental goals, and said knowing their son is now part of that Olympic effort filled them with pride.

They credited the JOA for its work in putting the scholarship in place, describing the association's involvement as central to the opportunity their son received.
