INDECOM probing shooting of father and son by police, killing of man in downtown Kingston

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is probing two separate police shooting incidents on Wednesday in Kingston, one in the Craig Town community that left a father and son injured, and another in downtown Kingston where an unidentified man was fatally shot.
In the Craig Town incident, a 22-year-old man and his 60-year-old father were shot and injured during an alleged armed confrontation with police.
The two were transported to the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH) for treatment.
Police reported that a Taurus nine-millimetre pistol with a magazine containing one cartridge was seized during the incident.
Videos which have since surfaced on social media appear to show the mother and sister of the 22 year old using their bodies as human shields while police attempted to remove him from the scene following the shooting.
Meanwhile, INDECOM investigators were also processing a second scene along Princess Street at the intersection with Charles Street in downtown Kingston, where an unidentified man was shot and killed during another police operation.
The deceased has not yet been formally identified.
Sources familiar with the incident told The Gleaner that the man is believed to be a teenager, although that information has not been confirmed by investigators.
Since the start of the year, INDECOM has been probing 131 fatal shootings by the security forces.
Of that number, 16 fatalities have been recorded so far in May.
