Mona home shooting leaves insurance claims officer wounded; police take Glock 19

A man employed as an insurance claims recovery officer, 48, was discovered with a gunshot injury on Wednesday morning at his Mona, St Andrew, home.

Police indicated his spouse, understood to serve in a government ministry, located him after noise from upstairs.

The force added that he was told he had gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in September 2025 and had afterward struggled with depression and anxiety attacks.

It is understood that shortly before dawn—about 4:30 a.m.—he spoke to his wife about stomach pain and departed to work out on the University of the West Indies (UWI) campus. He re-entered the house close to 5:30 a.m. and proceeded to his room on an upper floor.

Moments later, a sharp blast, described as gunfire-like, rang out. His wife investigated and saw him prone on his side with a bullet wound to the left chest. He was drenched in blood, and a pillow lying on him showed a puncture.

Authorities said residents helped transport the casualty to hospital, where he remains under care. Investigators seized a black Glock 19 pistol together with a magazine loaded with sixteen 9mm cartridges.
