Young footballers taking part in an Angel City FC training session said the day gave them practical defensive lessons, competitive drills and a chance to work with experienced women in the sport.

One participant said the session focused on proper defending, body positioning, one-on-one situations and agility work. She said her standout moment came during a one-on-one drill when Megan Reid, identified in the transcript as a centre defender for Angel City, praised her defending.

According to the player, Reid told her she was doing well at keeping the striker away from goal and staying in the right position in front of the net. The participant said being guided by strong women was the most memorable part of the session, adding that the coaches appeared committed to helping the players improve as people and possibly develop into professional players one day.

She also said football appeals to her because of the community around the sport, the feeling of family, and the excitement of shooting and scoring.

A second young player also described the training day positively, saying she enjoyed working with experienced coaches and felt there was a lot to learn from them. She said the one-on-one drills were her favourite part because they allowed her to test herself against other players and understand different styles of play.

That participant also said Reid was kind and showed strong knowledge of defending techniques. Away from the technical side of the game, she said the other girls at the session were friendly and easy to talk with.

For her, football is enjoyable because it can be played with friends, while also creating chances to meet new people. She said she also likes the competitive side of the game.
