Israel prepares for more Hezbollah fire after northern strikes
Israel is preparing for the possibility of additional Hezbollah attacks following several strikes in northern Israel on Saturday, as its military continues to push farther into southern Lebanon.
A CNN report said Israeli forces have taken control of Beaufort Castle, a roughly 900-year-old landmark positioned on a ridge near the city of Nabatieh. The site, which is protected by UNESCO, stands on terrain the Israeli military considers strategically important.
The seizure formed part of a wider Israeli effort to control that ridge. According to the military, Hezbollah had used positions in the area to direct rocket fire and other attacks against Israeli forces and northern Israel.
The move adds to the territory Israel has taken while widening its presence in southern Lebanon. The latest advance follows remarks made several days earlier by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who said the military would intensify its operations there.
Israel has also carried out strikes beyond the Israeli-occupied zone, including in Tyre and Nabatieh, as well as in the Bekaa Valley. A strike was also reported in Beirut, the first in the Lebanese capital in several weeks.
