Don G taps WYFL riddim for party anthem 'Raise All Glasses'

Jamaican singer Don G has staked his claim on one of dancehall's most talked-about instrumentals of the year, lacing the WYFL riddim with a feel-good party tune titled 'Raise All Glasses', which dropped in March.

Chatter about the riddim began circulating through dancehall circles late last December, with co-producers DJ Mac and Crashdummy fielding an early co-sign from Shaggy. The buzz reached Don G all the way in Luxembourg, the small landlocked European nation he has called home since 2017, and he was adamant about getting his voice on the project.

After repeatedly pressing the producers for a chance, the artiste secured the beat and got to work.

"I went to the recording studio and laid my vocals on the beat and came up with Raise All Glasses. It's a party/club banger with weekend vibes, lyrics clean as usual. I then sent it to one of my engineers in Jamaica to mix, who is DJ Cash Flow Neil, before sending it to DJ Mac for variation, and he liked the track," Don G said.

"I also posted a one-minute snippet on all my social media platforms of me in the recording studio voicing the song, and it gained a lot of traction," he added.

The WYFL riddim has more than delivered on its early promise, drawing contributions from dancehall heavyweights including Vybz Kartel, Mavado and Spice. Landing a slot on the rhythm carries real weight for Don G, whose discography has leaned more toward traditional reggae sounds.

"It's very important to me because it lets me show my versatility, even though I have a few dancehall songs in my catalogue," he said.

A native of St Catherine, Don G has been performing across the European circuit since relocating to Luxembourg nine years ago. His catalogue also features roots-leaning tracks such as 'Free', 'Real Warrior' and 'Internal Fire'.
