Dua Lipa files $15 million California action against Samsung over ACL Festival photo on TV packaging
Recording artist Dua Lipa is asking a federal judge in California to award fifteen million United States dollars from Samsung, the South Korean electronics major, charging that her face and figure appeared on television-set packaging without advance consent.
Variety, the entertainment-industry journal, reports the complaint was lodged on Friday in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.
The docket says that from last year onward Samsung has featured a photograph of Lipa performing at the Austin City Limits Festival on boxes and sleeves promoting its TV products.
Once she learned of the situation, she approached Samsung to demand removal of the picture, yet the company rebuffed that demand, according to the filing.
The filing further alleges Samsung has been making money from the frame even as the pleading advances a copyright position covering the photograph.
To underline commercial reach, the pleading points to several messages on X as examples of how the public linked the artwork with a Lipa endorsement Samsung could exploit.
