Licensed Firearm Holder Charged with Murder in Death of Girlfriend in St Elizabeth

1 min readSt. Elizabeth

A 38-year-old licensed firearm holder has been charged with murder, four days after his 20-year-old girlfriend was fatally shot in Hill Top, Parottee, St Elizabeth.

The accused, Joseph Finnikin, otherwise called “Bug,” “Tyson,” or “Contractor,” a building contractor from Lindos Hill district in Petersfield, Westmoreland, has been charged with murder and using a firearm to commit a felony.

The charges stem from the death of Anishka Thompson, who was shot on Friday morning.

According to police, Finnikin initially told investigators that around 8:30 a.m. Thompson had playfully picked up his licensed firearm. He claimed that while trying to take the weapon from her, a loud explosion was heard, leaving Thompson with a fatal gunshot wound.

The incident was first treated as a death investigation. However, following further investigations, detectives upgraded the case to murder, and Finnikin was formally charged on Tuesday.

Police have not disclosed additional details surrounding the investigation.
