MPs Raise Concerns Over Staffing, Delays as Health Recovery Plan Moves Forward

Members of Parliament have raised concerns about staffing shortages, project timelines and informal settlements as the Government moves ahead with its $6.04-billion Health Hurricane Response Programme.

The three-year initiative will rehabilitate 101 health centres and upgrade the Savanna-la-Mar Public General Hospital, while improving disaster resilience and expanding primary healthcare services.

Health Minister Dr Christopher Tufton said recruitment efforts, including the Barry Wint Memorial Scholarship programme, will help address staffing gaps, with construction expected to begin around October.

MPs also sought updates on the future of Black River Hospital and measures to protect planned health facility expansions.
