Norris Man delivers standout set at Barbados Reggae Weekend

Roots reggae singer Norris Man pulled a strong reaction from the Kensington Oval crowd on Friday night, turning in a spirited set during the Legends of Reggae Show and Dance in Barbados.

The show, billed as Vintage Friday, formed part of the Barbados Reggae Weekend, which ran from April 24 to April 26 and featured a deep card of reggae and dancehall performers.

During his time on stage, Norris Man pulled off a high leap that was caught on multiple cameras and quickly circulated online. “The Bajan press and the people dem say ah one of the highest jumps dem ever see, the photo gone viral on the social media in Barbados,” he told Observer Online with a laugh.

The artiste opened with Bright Days, a track that has long enjoyed traction with Barbadian audiences, before rolling through Bad Road, Park You Guns and Say She Never Knew It on the Tune In riddim. His delivery leaned heavily on roots, spiritual reflection and cultural commentary, and the audience locked in from the opening bars.

A centrepiece of the night was Persistence, the autobiographical anthem that traces his early grind as an upcoming act. Patrons sang along word for word as the Rastafarian artiste held the venue’s attention for several minutes.

Norris Man closed with Big Long Gun, drawing one of the loudest forwards of the evening. Across a weekend stacked with veteran and rising acts, his outing was singled out as one of the festival’s more spiritually grounded and memorable showings.
