Following the release of a damning report into the operations of the Firearm Licensing Authority (FLA), the opposition People's National Party (PNP) has called for the immediate resignation of the entity's Chief Executive Officer, Shane Dalling.
The investigative report by the Integrity Commission found accountability gaps, missing ammunition and irregularities in the FLA's licensing system.
Opposition Spokesperson on Justice Zuleika Jess says Mr. Dalling needs to step aside given the findings of the Integrity Commission.
"Madam Speaker, a man who runs an authority where the dead are used to falsify records, where vault doors cannot account for what is inside them and where evidence disappears without consequence, has no business holding public office. The People's National Party therefore calls unequivocally and without reservation for Mr. Shane Dalling to resign immediately," she demanded.
Bemoaning that the failure of a server at the FLA "conveniently erased the very evidence that would have identified who gave the order", the opposition spokesperson contended that "The people of Jamaica deserve leadership that upholds the law, not leadership that the Integrity Commission itself has found wanting."
Ms. Jess was making her contribution to the Sectoral Debate on Wednesday afternoon.
