Portland Police win third straight Area 2 athletics crown
Portland Police captured the Area 2 Athletics Championship for the third year in a row, finishing on 362 points at the St. Mary Sports Club.
St. Mary Police Division placed second with 328 points, while St. Ann Police Division ended third on 298. Although Portland took the team crown, the leading individual performers came from St. Ann.
Corporal Nicholas Fraser of the St. Ann Police Division collected 43 points and was named overall male champion. Constable Garnishia Campbell, also representing St. Ann, topped the female standings with 34 points.
Another standout was Constable Germaine Douglas, a former two-time male champion, who retained his 100-metre crown and became sprint champion for a third consecutive year. The transcript also referred to back issues from last year, while stressing the role of training, hard work and persistence.
St. Mary Police Division was recognised as the most disciplined team at the meet.
Area 2 officials will next choose a squad to represent the region at the two-day national championships, scheduled for GC Foster College on May 29 and 30.
