St Catherine Home Invasion: Armed robbers steal $10 million from St Catherine couple, make $500,000 in unauthorized card transactions
Police in St Catherine and St Ann are investigating a brazen home invasion in which armed robbers allegedly stole $10 million in cash from a St Catherine couple before using their debit cards to make more than $500,000 in unauthorized transactions in St Ann.
According to police reports, the incident occurred about 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 12, when a 51-year-old businessman returned to his home in Pleasant Farm, St Catherine.
Investigators say the businessman was confronted by two armed men, who forced him at gunpoint to enter the house. Once inside, the intruders reportedly tied up the businessman and his wife before searching the premises.
The robbers allegedly made off with $10 million in cash and also demanded the couple’s debit cards and personal identification numbers (PINs).
Police said that after obtaining the cards and PINs, one of the gunmen contacted an accomplice by telephone. The accomplice allegedly travelled to St Ann, where more than $500,000 was withdrawn or spent through unauthorized transactions using the stolen cards.
The two armed men then fled the scene.
The victims later managed to free themselves and reported the incident to the police.
The Linstead police are leading the investigation, with assistance from detectives in St Ann, as efforts continue to identify and apprehend those responsible.
