Share

The US is sending a charter flight to evacuate 17 Americans from the cruise ship MV Hondius after a hantavirus outbreak killed three people and infected several others.

The CDC has classified the situation as a Level 3 emergency response and is dispatching health teams to the Canary Islands and Nebraska to assist with quarantine measures.

Passengers will be flown to Omaha, Nebraska, where they will quarantine at the University of Nebraska following medical screening.

Health officials across multiple US states are monitoring possible cases, while authorities say the risk to the wider public remains low.
