Commissioner Blake Calls on JCF Members to Turn Out for Sports Season

Commissioner of Police Dr Kevin Blake is urging members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) to throw their support behind the organisation's sports season now under way, pointing to the role such events play in building unity and protecting officer wellbeing.

Writing in his most recent weekly column, Dr Blake said the Force's drive to push back crime and violence must be matched by efforts that foster fellowship and ease the strain that comes with policing duties.

"As we continue to fight the good fight in reducing crime and violence in our country, we must never lose sight of the need for those social events that strengthen our bond and ease the stress that comes with the job," he said.

The Commissioner pointed out that the nature of police work routinely puts officers in dangerous situations, often standing, in his words, "between these violent murderers and the people who we serve".

He called on personnel to set aside time for the divisional sporting fixtures being staged in the run-up to the JCF's National Sports Day.

"I hope each of you find the time to attend one of the several sports events… These events will continue until our National Sports on May 29 and 30," Dr Blake stated.

The Commissioner also indicated that he plans to be on hand at a number of the matches and offered good wishes to those taking part.

"I pray for you the participants, that you may have an injury free season, and loads of fun in the process," he added.

Dr Blake further recognised the officers who will remain at their posts while colleagues take to the field, thanking them for keeping watch over communities.

"For those of you who will continue to hold the line in our communities while your colleagues attend Sports, I truly thank you," he said.

The yearly JCF sports calendar is regarded as an important pillar of life within the Force, encouraging teamwork, resilience and the overall wellbeing of its members.
