St. Jamesで開催のJamaica Diaspora Conference、世界の「ジャマイカの友」に門戸

外務・外国貿易省の国務相、Hon. Alando Terrelonge氏は、6月14日から18日までSt. JamesのMontego Bay Convention Centreで開催予定の第11回隔年Jamaica Diaspora Conferenceに、「ジャマイカの友」が参加するよう呼びかけている。

“The conference is open to friends of Jamaica. It is not just limited to our Jamaican family but to our extended family,”と同氏は、5月19日火曜日、ラテンアメリカ在住のジャマイカ人を対象にしたオンライン・タウンホールで述べた。

このオンライン会合は、国務相が主導する継続中のディアスポラ協議の一環として行われたもので、同氏は来たるConferenceの詳細を共有し、海外在住ジャマイカ人からの質問に答えている。参加者はMexico、Belize、Panama、Guatemala、Ecuadorおよび複数の他国から参加した。

Mr. Terrelongeは、このイベントにより、海外在住のジャマイカ人と、同島を広く支援する人々が、Jamaicaの省庁、部局、機関、非政府組織、主要な民間部門の関係者と直接つながる機会を得られると述べた。

“The Conference programme has been meticulously curated to facilitate rich and meaningful exchanges on ways to invest in Jamaica, whether it’s in terms of real estate, business, or entrepreneurship, and just connecting with businesses generally,”と同氏はタウンホールで語った。

同氏はまた、今年の開催では社会的インパクトが重要な焦点になると指摘し、ボランティア活動が大きく取り上げられると述べた。さらにConferenceは、海外の第2世代、第3世代、第4世代のジャマイカ人の間で、ジャマイカ人としてのアイデンティティとの結び付きを強めることも意図しているという。

開催まで3週間余りとなる中、Mr. Terrelongeは、主催者が今年のブース数を増やした後でも、Conferenceのマーケットプレイスへの需要が利用可能なスペースを上回っていると述べた。

“In 2024… we had 60 booths inside the marketplace. Based on the demand, we extended the marketplace this year to 80. And whilst we have already confirmed 80 persons or 80 businesses/organisations/government departments/agencies… different private-sector teams for the marketplace… we still have another 30 persons or business entities wanting to get into the marketplace,”と同氏は述べた。

国務相は、この関心の高さを心強いものだと表現し、Jamaicaがより強靱になるための取り組みを支える可能性があると述べた。同氏はタウンホール参加者に出席を促し、次のように語った。“The Conference promises to be a great opportunity to build your brand, to build you… of course, whilst playing your part in building a more resilient Jamaica.”
