Jah Rockaz takes reggae mission to int’l stage

For reggae band Jah Rockaz, music has never been just about entertainment; it has always been about connection. Over the past few years, the Florida-based band has steadily built a reputation for delivering energetic performances while staying true to the uplifting messages that have long defined reggae music.

Led by founder, producer and drummer O'Brain Williams, Jah Rockaz has evolved from a passion project into a growing international act.

"Jah Rockaz started from a simple love for music and community. I wanted to create something that brought people together through reggae, while also blending influences from pop, soul, Afrobeat and Caribbean culture," Williams told The Gleaner.

“What began as a local passion project has grown into an international movement with performances across Florida, the United States, and now opportunities overseas,” he continued.

Yet, despite the growth, Williams says the motivation remains remarkably simple.

"What keeps us motivated is seeing the impact the music has on people. Whether it's someone dancing, singing along, or telling us a song helped them through a difficult time, those moments remind us why we do this," he said.

The band’s philosophy is perhaps best captured in its slogan, ‘Reggae is Healing’ — a message that has become central to both its music and live performances. That message was on full display recently when Jah Rockaz headlined the Merritt Island Festival in Florida alongside Grammy Award-winning reggae legends Inner Circle.

The performance formed part of the group's Reggae is Healing tour, which saw them perform across Florida's east and west coasts while steadily growing their fan base through grassroots engagement and authentic live shows.

For Williams, sharing a stage with one of reggae's most celebrated groups represented another important step in the band's journey.

The Merritt Island Festival performance also came as Jah Rockaz prepared for an ambitious summer schedule that includes several headline festival appearances and the continued expansion of the tour across the United States.

Adding to the momentum, the band is preparing to release a live EP later this summer. Recorded during the current tour, the project is expected to capture the energy, spontaneity and audience connection that have become defining features of the Jah Rockaz live experience.

"We're not just releasing songs — we're building experiences," Williams said. "The live EP captures the spirit of Jah Rockaz on stage, and the Reggae is Healing Tour is about creating moments where people from all walks of life can come together through music."

For Williams, both the upcoming release and the band's expanding tour schedule are extensions of a larger mission.

Describing the period as one of the most exciting in the band's journey so far, Williams expressed gratitude for the growing support Jah Rockaz continues to receive.

"This is an exciting chapter for Jah Rockaz, and we're grateful for the growing support from fans both at home in Jamaica and around the world."

While the band celebrates its growing success, Williams remains focused on a bigger goal.

"One thing I hope to accomplish is helping introduce reggae music to a broader global audience while staying true to its roots," he said. "Reggae has always been a powerful force for unity, healing and positive change, and I want Jah Rockaz to be part of carrying that message forward for the next generation," he said.

As Jah Rockaz prepares for upcoming performances in Florida, New York, Guyana, Jamaica and other international markets, the band remains grounded in the values that sparked its formation.

Williams is keen to remind supporters that behind the growing recognition is a group committed to authenticity.

"I want our fans to know that what they see is real," he said. "Jah Rockaz isn't built on hype. It's built on hard work, authenticity, and genuine love for people."

He added: "As we continue to grow, we're committed to staying connected to our roots and to the community that helped us get here. No matter how big the stages become, our mission remains the same: to create music that brings people together."

And, if Williams has his way, Jah Rockaz will continue carrying reggae's timeless message to every corner of the globe.

As he proudly puts it: "Jamaica gave us our foundation, Florida gave us our platform, and the world is our stage."
