KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica is expected to remain under windy and rough marine conditions into the weekend as a low-level jetstream over the central Caribbean continues to influence the island’s weather.
The Meteorological Service of Jamaica said the system has been producing powerful winds since Tuesday, with the most significant impact expected across southern parishes and nearby waters. Gusts and rough seas have already been affecting offshore areas, the agency noted.
Forecasters expect the windy conditions to continue across Jamaica and its territorial waters until Saturday. The public is being advised to take care, as the weather may cause limited damage to infrastructure, including broken tree branches and problems in areas that are easily affected.
Fishers and other marine operators, especially those working inshore and offshore along the south coast, have been urged to use extreme caution. Seas are forecast to stay unsafe because of the sustained strong winds, leaving conditions unsuitable for small vessels.
The Meteorological Service said it will keep tracking the weather feature and issue further advisories when needed.
