Jamaica to Require Artificial Intelligence Training for Public Sector Workers

1 min read

Trevor Forrest, Senior Advisor to Science and Technology Minister Dr Andrew Wheatley, has signalled that artificial intelligence training will become compulsory for staff across Jamaica's public sector.

Forrest shared the plan while addressing the Jamaica Diaspora Conference in Montego Bay. The programme is intended to equip public servants with a working grasp of AI, including how to apply the technology responsibly and how it could raise efficiency within ministries, departments and agencies.

He noted that some workers still hold back from new digital tools, largely because they worry automation could cost them their jobs.

Forrest contended that broader AI use within government would lift the standard of public services and make dealings with state institutions smoother for citizens.
