Jamaica Met Service warns of damaging winds through Saturday
Jamaica's Meteorological Service says powerful gusts from a low-level jet over the central Caribbean may cause damage to some infrastructure.
The agency is calling on people across the island to take care as the windy conditions continue.
Forecasters expect the winds to affect Jamaica and its territorial waters until Saturday.
According to the Met Service, southern parishes and offshore marine zones are experiencing the most severe effects.
Fishers and other sea users, especially those working inshore and offshore on the south coast, are being urged to use extreme care because very strong winds are expected to keep seas hazardous.
