Jamaica Police Federation to elect new chairman after Arleen McBean promoted to ASP

The Jamaica Police Federation is preparing to choose a new chairman after Sergeant Arleen McBean was advanced to assistant superintendent of police in the Jamaica Constabulary Force.

Her move into the JCF’s senior ranks brings her time as head of the federation to a close. The organisation, which speaks for rank-and-file members of the police force, will now have to fill the vacancy through an election.

McBean, a long-serving federation executive, was one of several police personnel elevated at a promotion ceremony held on Thursday by Commissioner of Police Dr Kevin Blake at his office in St Andrew.

Those also promoted included Assistant Commissioner of Police DeVaughn Colquhoun (Supernumerary), who heads the JCF’s Corporate Services, along with Senior Superintendents Adrian Hamilton and Arielle Brown Blake. Superintendents Keisha Oakley and Alfred McDonald were also moved up.

The JCF’s officer corps was further bolstered by the promotions of Deputy Superintendents Howard Wilks, Nicholas Shorter and Arlene Robinson Johnson, as well as Assistant Superintendent Robert Bailey.

In a statement congratulating ASP McBean, the federation said she had served “with distinction in various leadership capacities over many years and has made an invaluable contribution to the welfare and well-being of rank-and-file members, both past and present.”

“Her dedication, commitment, and unwavering advocacy on behalf of our members have earned her the respect and admiration of colleagues throughout the Jamaica Constabulary Force,” the federation said.

It added: “We wish her every success in her new role and pray for God’s continued guidance, favour, and abundant blessings as she embarks on this new chapter of service.”
