Jamaica’s Chest Hospital Blood Centre to Undergo $16.6 Million Upgrade to Strengthen National Supply

The National Chest Hospital Blood Collection Centre will be upgraded under a $16.6 million contract to improve Jamaica’s blood collection capacity and donor facilities, the Ministry of Health and Wellness (Jamaica) said.
The project supports a shift toward voluntary, repeat blood donation as national demand continues to outpace the 35,000–40,000 units collected annually.
The centre, which supplies about 22% of the country’s blood, will undergo repairs including roofing, plumbing, electrical, and air-conditioning upgrades.
Officials say the works will improve safety, efficiency, and donor experience, with completion targeted around World Blood Donor Day in June.
