Sexual Harassment Tribunal Closes Majority of Cases Filed in Jamaica
Jamaica’s Sexual Harassment Tribunal is now operating in full and has settled most of the complaints taken to it so far.
From July 2025 to March of this year, the Tribunal received 21 sexual harassment matters, and 62 per cent of those cases have already been resolved and closed.
The Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, which oversees the Tribunal, is again urging employers to comply with the law by putting sexual harassment prevention policies in place and making sure workers know about them.
At the same time, the Bureau of Gender Affairs says it remains available to help and is working on a mobile app that will allow people facing domestic violence to reach out for assistance.
According to the ministry, the app will link with the National 24-hour Domestic Violence Hotline and is being designed as a discreet, secure and accessible way to respond to people who need support and to help prevent gender-based violence.
The ministry said the platform will also allow the Bureau to deliver Next Level services as part of its Continuum of Care for Survivors of Gender-Based Violence.
Portfolio Minister Olivia Grange told Parliament earlier this week, “The app is coming, but the hotline is open now. I encourage anyone who needs assistance to call 876-553-0372.”
Grange also said the passage and rollout of the Sexual Harassment (Protection and Prevention) Act ranks among the ministry’s proudest legislative accomplishments, adding that it should help reshape how people treat each other in workplaces, institutions and the accommodation sector.
