Jamaican cousins launch wellness-focused travel experience for Labour Day Weekend

As wellness tourism continues to grow globally, two Jamaicans are introducing a new travel experience designed to combine music, culture and personal well-being while showcasing another side of Jamaica.

Nadine McNeil and internationally renowned DJ Jason “DJ Shogun” Murdock will host Party with a Purpose, a five-day event in Montego Bay from September 3–7, bringing together yoga, meditation, cultural excursions, live entertainment and community engagement as part of a Labour Day weekend experience.

The initiative comes as travellers increasingly seek vacations that prioritise wellness alongside recreation, creating new opportunities for Caribbean destinations to diversify their tourism offerings.

“We’ve spent years proving that celebration and well-being are not opposites—they’re partners,” says McNeil. “Some of the most meaningful moments happen when people feel free enough to laugh, dance, move, connect and simply be themselves.”

The concept grew out of the cousins’ experience working together aboard international music cruises, including the Welcome to Jamrock Cruise, the Maxwell Urban Suite Cruise and the Rise & Rhythm Gospel Cruise.

They noticed that many guests who spent evenings enjoying live entertainment also eagerly participated in early morning yoga and meditation sessions.

“There was something incredibly powerful about watching that,” McNeil says. “People weren’t choosing between joy and wellness. They were embracing both.”

McNeil, who has spent more than two decades in international humanitarian leadership with the United Nations while also teaching yoga and meditation, says the experience is intended to appeal to professionals and travellers looking to return home feeling restored rather than exhausted.

Murdock, whose career has taken him to festivals, concerts and music cruises across the Caribbean and North America, believes music plays an equally important role in supporting well-being and building community.

“Some people want every activity,” he says. “Others want a massage, a beach chair and a great conversation. We wanted to create something that respects both.”

Unlike traditional wellness retreats, Party with a Purpose allows participants to tailor their own experience. Guests can participate in wellness sessions, explore Montego Bay, enjoy Jamaica’s culinary and cultural offerings, relax by the sea or take part in evening entertainment.

The organisers say their goal is not only to create a memorable visitor experience but also to contribute to the continued evolution of Jamaica’s tourism product.

As destinations compete for travellers seeking more meaningful experiences, wellness tourism has emerged as one of the fastest-growing segments of the global travel industry. Jamaica’s combination of natural beauty, music, culture and hospitality places it in a strong position to capitalise on that trend.

For McNeil and Murdock, Party with a Purpose is intended to demonstrate how those strengths can be combined to create experiences that celebrate both the island’s cultural identity and the growing demand for intentional travel.

Party with a Purpose will take place September 3–7 in Montego Bay and is open to solo travellers, couples and groups.
