Jamaicans Mark Labour Day 2026 With Community and School Improvement Projects
Jamaicans answered the national appeal for Labour Day 2026 on Monday, taking part in activities held under the theme, “One People, One Purpose. In All Things, Jamaica Wins.” The day’s programme placed emphasis on improving community spaces, early childhood education facilities and sporting infrastructure.
Images from the day showed Lieutenant Oneaka Stamp of the Jamaica Defence Force and Anna Lee Thomas of the Jamaica Constabulary Force cleaning part of Trench Town Polytechnic College. At Independence Park, by the entrance to the National Stadium, Leonard Nelson of the Bob Marley Foundation cleaned a statue of the reggae icon.
In St Andrew, Michael Byrue, general manager of Finance and Planning at the Transport Authority, worked at St Peter Claver Primary School. Charmaine Hanson painted a pedestrian crossing on Maxfield Avenue, while St Andrew South Eastern Member of Parliament Julian Robinson helped clean outside the Vineyard Town Community Centre.
