Jamarii opens up on 450 collab, Grass Twin roots and No Days Off push

Dancehall artist Jamarii has been reflecting on the buzz around his collaboration with 450, his upbringing in Grass Twin, and the grind behind his track No Days Off, in a sit-down with Richie.

Asked what sets the 450 record apart, Jamarii framed it as a song for everyone. Talk turned to how hit records in dancehall often spark corporate-style clashes — from Vybz Kartel and Alkaline to L.A.M.A.N. and Munga Honorable — but Jamarii said he does not see that kind of battle forming around this release. He pointed instead to the personal drive behind his music, saying, "I did for myself. I pray for better days."

Jamarii traced his path to Grass Twin, describing it as more than a neighbourhood. "Grass Twin is not just a community. Grass Twin is a musical community," he said, noting that many major artists have come out of the area. He painted a picture of waking up to sound systems, weekend parties, and studio sessions — an environment where music is part of daily life.

On social media fame, he acknowledged staying visible on TikTok but warned that platform virality alone rarely carries a song into the mainstream. "TikTok promotion alone can't do it," he said, stressing the need for road work, Instagram, and other paid promotion that many young artists struggle to fund. He said the financial side is improving and that getting marketing done properly has made the climb easier.

Strong records, he added, do not always earn recognition on their own. Setbacks and slow traction do not bother him; his focus remains forward. Asked what listeners should take from No Days Off and how dancehall might break further onto international and Billboard charts, he kept it simple: he will keep doing what he has to do.
