Jason DaCosta lands four winners on nine-race Saturday programme

Jason DaCosta stamped his authority on the Saturday, May 23, 2026 programme, sending out four winners on the nine-race card as the four-time defending champion trainer again took centre stage.

His successful runners were Purosangue, Himaya, Fred The Master and Eye of the Tiger, giving the DaCosta barn a major say in the day's results.

The most eye-catching effort came from Purosangue, an American-bred chestnut colt partnered by Tevin Foster. He powered away by 8 1/4 lengths in the $1.05-million Maiden Special Weight for native-bred and imported three-year-olds over one mile, or 1,600 metres.

Purosangue did not leave the gates sharply, but once he gathered himself he moved up strongly and took charge approaching the six-furlong, 1,200-metre point. From there, the colt kept rolling and was never seriously threatened.

He completed the trip in 1:38.4, with splits of 24.1, 47.0, 1:12.4 and 1:25.4. Unbelievable Power, ridden by Ian Spence, finished second, while Comuna Trece, with Raddesh Roman aboard, was third.

"He is an improving three-year-old and he has always been showing us that he wanted to go long. The longer the better for him and he is improving at the right time," DaCosta told the Jamaica Observer's The Supreme Racing Guide.

"Today, he had to do all the work himself but he is going to enjoy it more when he gets a pace to run. He is a good long-distance horse, one that you are going to hear a lot about in the future. We will see how he comes out of this race and we will choose a race for him in the class above," he added.

Himaya also added to DaCosta's tally, producing a well-timed finish under Shaheem Gordon to catch Sir Wong Don, ridden by Raddesh Roman, right at the line.

The five-year-old roan mare won by a head in the $790,000 Optional Claiming event for three-year-olds and upward, with a claiming range of $500,000 to $400,000. The race also included native-bred six-year-olds and upward, non-winners of four, over seven furlongs, or 1,400 metres.

Himaya stopped the clock at 1:30.1 after fractions of 23.2, 47.4 and 1:15.1. Money Box, ridden by Romane Gordon, took third.

Fred The Master, a four-year-old American-bred bay colt, gave DaCosta another comfortable success in the $1.19-million Restricted Stakes over six furlongs.

The race was framed for imported three-year-olds and upward, non-winners of three, along with native-bred three-year-olds and four-year-olds, non-winners of four. Robert Halledeen sent Fred The Master to the lead, and the colt stayed there, opening out to score by 5 1/2 lengths.

Mulligan Man, ridden by Jaheim Anderson, was second, while Star Quest, with Shaheem Gordon in the saddle, finished third. Fred The Master was timed in 1:12.2, with fractions of 23.2, 47.2 and 59.3.

Eye of the Tiger completed the four-timer with another decisive performance, taking the $1.05-million Maiden Condition Race for native-bred three-year-olds over five furlongs, or 1,000 metres, round.

The three-year-old bay colt, ridden by Abigail Able, made one sustained move and drew off by 8 3/4 lengths. He covered the distance in a sharp 59.4 seconds after splits of 23.4 and 47.3, finishing ahead of Dark Authority, ridden by Raddesh Roman, and Golden Ambassador, partnered by Tevin Foster.
