JCF backs drag racer Andrew Hudson at Vernamfield road safety event
The Jamaica Constabulary Force took its road safety campaign into Jamaica’s drag racing community at the Valvoline Drag Rivals Tune event at Vernamfield Aerodrome, where hundreds of vehicles, drivers and tuners gathered. In a segment presented by Senior Superintendent Dennis Brooks of the Constabulary Communication Network, the JCF highlighted Detective Sergeant Andrew Hudson and his 2001 Honda Integra, described as the fastest in the Caribbean in its category.
Hudson said the official support from the organisation made the occasion especially meaningful. He said representing the JCF in motorsport had long been a personal ambition, and he welcomed Police Commissioner Dr. Blake’s decision to support the idea and the message behind it.
The detective sergeant said he has been racing for 21 years and that the Integra is his fourth competition car. He described it as the best of the vehicles he has campaigned, saying it has been reliable, popular with fans and consistent at race meets. For this event, the car was wrapped in JCF branding and given additional modifications as Hudson aimed to record a personal-best performance.
Dr. Blake said the force’s involvement was built around road safety and the need to reach drivers inside the racing culture. He said Vernamfield was the proper place for racing, not public roads, and noted that the car carried the message: “race on the track and not on the road.”
The commissioner said the JCF recognised the appeal of fast cars and motorcycles in Jamaica, but wanted that excitement channelled responsibly. He said officers were showing they were part of the same community while encouraging safer use of the road.
Dr. Blake also linked the initiative to the JCF’s internal doctrine of “one force for good”, saying the organisation was seeking to operate as a unified body with one mission, one cause and one goal.
