JCF officers and families mark Father's Day with tributes across Jamaica
The Jamaica Constabulary Force used Father's Day to spotlight officers, their children, and other loved ones, paying tribute to men who guide, protect, and inspire within the force and across the country.
Sergeant Richard Sewell, who serves at the Commissioner's Office, appeared alongside Nazir Sewell of Old Harbour, St. Catherine; Kevron Smart of South Haven, speaking about his father, also named Kevron Smart; Constable Ryan Brown of the Portland Division, son of Detective Inspector Rowan Brown; Corporal Jermaine Douglas, also stationed in Portland, whose three-year-old daughter is Breanna Douglas; and Jada McKenzie of Portland, daughter of Hilton McKenzie.
Participants described fatherhood as a heavy responsibility and a deeply rewarding journey. One officer said he was present when both his children were born and would never trade the bond they share. Another said the greatest reward is the joy felt on returning home to family.
Several speakers noted that fatherhood extends beyond biology to daily commitment—the man who shows up, leads by example, and offers guidance in difficult times. One child praised a father who, despite a disability, still strives for independence and remains available whenever needed.
Officers also addressed the strain of policing on family life. Long shifts mean missed birthdays, weekends, and other milestones. One father said he plans months ahead when birthdays are approaching to keep work and home life in balance. An operational officer said his biggest fear is going out on duty one day and not coming home.
Children offered heartfelt messages. Jada McKenzie called her father loving and forgiving, saying, "I love my dad 100%." One youngster said he would give his dad unlimited money if he could, though he noted happiness cannot be bought. Another recalled playing football with his father in the neighbourhood before age slowed those games.
Closing the feature, JCF leadership thanked fathers and father figures across Jamaica and wished them a happy, blessed Father's Day.
