JCF pushes road safety message at Skunkfest 2026 car culture event
The Jamaica Constabulary Force took its road safety campaign into Jamaica’s car culture scene at Skunkfest 2026, where families, community partners and motor vehicle enthusiasts gathered for the event.
Police Commissioner Dr Kevin Blake said the turnout matched what he expected, despite concerns that rain could affect attendance. He said he had visited the booths, spoken with participants and was pleased with the level of support at the show.
Blake said the JCF’s presence in motorsport was intentional, as the force wanted to carry its safety message directly to drivers, riders and other members of the racing community. He said Jamaicans should be able to enjoy motorsport responsibly while keeping public roads safe.
The commissioner repeated the force’s central message: “race on the track, not on the road.” He also said the JCF’s Integra Type R would be among the vehicles racing at Vernon Field on August 8 and 9.
Blake said events like Skunkfest also help the police build stronger community relationships. He said members of the force are Jamaicans first, drawn from the same communities they serve, and share many of the same interests as the public.
He linked the safety appeal to the country’s wider effort to save lives, saying the JCF, the Government of Jamaica, citizens and stakeholders had helped reduce murders in recent years. According to Blake, 825 fewer people were killed by criminals between 2022 and 2025, and those gains should not be lost through road crashes.
He urged motorists not to drink and drive, not to speed, and to keep racing off public streets.
Participants at the event welcomed the police presence. One organiser said Skunkfest had grown from an idea for a car reveal into a broader celebration of unity, motorsport and car culture. Another automotive figure said the JCF’s involvement gave patrons a greater sense of security and showed that police were also part of the wider motoring community.
As the event closed, the JCF’s message remained focused on partnership, safer driving, fewer road deaths and racing only in controlled spaces.
