JCF tells public to stay calm as St Mary third country nationals rumours spread

KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has called on the public to keep their composure and stick to confirmed facts amid claims that third country nationals (TCNs) could be placed in Jamaica.

In a release issued Monday, the force said official channels confirm there is no active plan to accommodate TCNs in St Mary. The arrangement under discussion has not been put into effect, and authorities have neither chosen nor locked in any site for that purpose.

The statement landed as many Jamaicans voiced doubt, reluctance and open opposition on social media following news of an agreement with the United States (US) to take in TCNs, alongside unconfirmed talk of a possible holding centre in St Mary.

The JCF also asked people to stop issuing threats or taking steps that harm persons or belongings tied to the debate. "Threats, intimidation, and damage to property are criminal offences and will be dealt with accordingly," the police said.

Residents should turn to trusted official outlets for updates and raise worries through legal, non-violent channels. The force said it will continue working to uphold order and protect every Jamaican.
