JDF Lieutenant Colonel Sheldon Bryan Named ITA Director General from September 1

1 min read

The Island Traffic Authority will have a new Director General from September 1, after Lieutenant Colonel Sheldon Bryan of the Jamaica Defence Force was named to the post.

His move to the civilian agency is a secondment from the JDF, cleared by the Chief of Defence Staff and the Permanent Secretary.

Hon. Daryl Vaz, Minister of Energy, Transport and Telecommunications, made the announcement on Wednesday (July 15) at the Post-Cabinet Press Briefing held at Jamaica House.

Minister Vaz said the change follows the departure of the previous Director General, Colonel Daniel Pryce, whose resignation took effect on June 30.

“Lieutenant Colonel Sheldon Bryan brings good leadership skills, operational discipline, technological competence and government experience required to lead the ITA through the next phase of its development,” Minister Vaz said.

Among Bryan’s priorities, the minister indicated, will be pushing ahead with the demerit points regime already being rolled out and sustaining the authority’s wider modernisation programme.

“Last but not least, to get the Black River examination depot back up and running within the first 30 to 45 days,” Minister Vaz said.

Under the Road Traffic Act, the Island Traffic Authority oversees vehicle testing and inspection so that cars and other motor vehicles meet fitness, roadworthiness and safety requirements. The agency’s work underpins efforts to keep Jamaica’s roads safer for the travelling public.
