JDF opens probe after social media clip shows armed men claiming to be soldiers

1 min read

The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) says it has launched an inquiry into a widely circulated clip in which two men carrying firearms appear to present themselves as members of the Force during a fraught exchange at a residence.

According to accounts tied to the footage, a woman is said to have brought her "side man" to the dwelling she occupied with her partner.

"We are aware of the viral video on social media and internal investigations are ongoing to ascertain more details on the matter, but we are investigating," a JDF communications representative told THE STAR.

The recording, now circulating heavily online, depicts a private dispute marked by intense feeling that nevertheless stops short of blows. In the clip, a man who seems to live at the property calmly shows a second man how to work the door, remarking "You wouldn't know that." That resident states that he is a soldier. The visitor attempts to leave holding his clothes. Midway through the scene, a woman briefly looks out from a bathroom.

Throughout, the man inside keeps asserting that he already knew of the alleged link between the woman and the visitor, remaining measured while directing the other man toward the exit. Both figures seem to be armed, yet the episode does not erupt into an assault.

The Force says its internal review is underway to determine what actually occurred.
