Jereem Richards Runs 44.87 for Stockholm Diamond League 400m Bronze

1 min read

Jereem Richards secured third place in the men’s 400 metres at the Diamond League meet in Stockholm, Sweden, producing his quickest run of the season at 44.87 seconds.

After the race, Richards marked the result on social media, giving thanks to God and signalling that he sees the performance as an early step in a longer push for bigger targets. He posted: “Started my Diamond League season with a 3rd-place finish in Stockholm (44.87). Thankful to God for his grace, protection, and the opportunity to compete at this level once again. It’s not about how you start, but how you finish, and this is only the beginning. The ball is rolling. Time to keep building. All Glory to God.”

Running from lane seven in a competitive line-up featuring Americans Jacory Patterson and Khaleb McRae, as well as Britain’s Charles Dobson, Richards got away well and stayed close to the front as the race moved into the last 100 metres.

Zakithi Nene won in 44.48 seconds, Patterson took second in 44.69, and Richards followed in 44.87. McRae was fourth in 44.94, making it four athletes under 45 seconds. Dobson ended fifth with a season-best 45.15, while Sweden’s Carl Bengtström and Zambia’s Muzala Samukonga rounded out the field.

Richards had also made an early-season statement in January, winning the 300m at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston in 32.14 seconds, ahead of world champion Noah Lyles.
