JFF Urged to Avoid Repeating Reggae Boyz World Cup Failures

Jamaica's football authorities are being urged not to gloss over the Reggae Boyz's failure to qualify for the World Cup, with the setback described as a travesty that should not be forgotten. The warning is that if the miss is swept under the carpet and treated as business as usual, the programme is on course to repeat the same mistakes.

The senior men's team missed out after failing to finish top of a qualifying group that also featured Trinidad, Curaçao and Bermuda. That shortfall is said to have cost Jamaica close to J$2 billion in potential earnings.

Interim coach Rudolph Speid has been handed another extension, added on to a previous extension. The apparent expectation is that the arrangement will simply be renewed again and again until qualifying for the 2030 World Cup gets under way.

At the same time, the Jamaica Football Federation has indicated that it does not have the money to do anything differently. The concern raised is that, without genuine change, the national team is set to slip back into a familiar cycle of failure.
