JFJ questions police use of force after fatal Granville shooting

St. James

Mickel Jackson, executive director of Jamaicans for Justice (JFJ), says Sunday’s deadly shooting in Granville, St. James, leaves open whether the constable’s actions matched the level of danger he faced.

Lotoya Bulgin, 45, widely known as “Buju”, died in Granville Square. A security camera recorded what happened, and footage of the killing has spread widely online. Authorities have since placed the officer linked to the case on interdiction.

Jackson called the matter deeply troubling. She reiterated the organisation’s demand that personnel across the security forces be equipped with body-worn cameras. JFJ has also flagged worries about the way investigators managed the Granville crime scene.
