JPS restoring power after islandwide blackout as Vaz orders report
Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) has started bringing customers back online after a nationwide electricity failure hit Friday night, Energy Minister Daryl Vaz said.
In a late Friday statement, Vaz called the disruption “unacceptable” and said JPS executives told him every generating station was being brought back into service. The aim, he said, was to return supply across Jamaica in stages through the night and into Saturday morning.
Vaz said he has instructed the utility to submit, within 24 hours, a complete account explaining the outage and its cause, after which he will brief the public.
